About Scratch :: Bugs and Glitches :: Bitmap gradients can't fill black spaces

All of these experiments happened in Bitmap mode:

When I tried to use the fill bucket with a linear gradient on a black shape today, nothing happened.
I retried about 20 times, and still nothing happened.

I tried filling orange and yellow spaces with gradients, and it always worked.

I tried filling the black shape with a solid color, and it always worked.

Putting a gradient on the black shape still never worked.

To try to recreate this glitch:

1. draw a black shape in Bitmap mode
   
2. select the fill bucket tool
   
3. select any color gradient pattern
   
4. select the colors yellow and cyan
   
5. click the shape
